The Project ...
... connects an actual, real physical
location in the old downtown section of the city of Gleisdorf with media locations,
especially the internet. But from there it leads back to other real life locations. Real
and virtual realizations are in the sum a program, which has certain fixed points open for
further interpretation. The project stands at the crossingpoint, an area of conjuncture
for the following themes:
Private and public space: is this polarity still timely
Real and cybernetic space
(cyberspace, internet and analogue space)
Historic space and the presence:
how does one direct the past?
Geographical space, geopolitical
definitions: what is homeland? What is province? What is periphery? What is the center?
Intellectual definitions: what is
the formula for power, (discourse)?
Hierachically: what serves as
important, acknowledged, essential, known, etc.?
Juxtaposition: what open space is
there? How does art and culture relate to everyday needs? |
[deutsch] The city...
... our image of what a city is stems most of all from the middle ages. Around a
"sanctified center of events" concentrically unfolds what makes a town as such.
The Duke, the Bishop, the marketplace...
But today the city is polycentric. New centers were found and enriched with meaning. I
don´t think that in contrast the older center of the city can be restored amoung ist
original content. It must be able to reach its own meaning.
