Am Anfang der Arbeit für dieses Projekt stand ein Satz, den Kunsthistorikerin Mirjana Peitler-Selakov im Roman „Anna Karenina“ von Lew Tolstoj als Auftakt vorfand: „Alle glücklichen Familien gleichen einander, jede unglückliche Familie dagegen ist unglücklich auf ihre besondere Art.“

Zu einem anderen Abschnitt des Prozesses von „next code: love“ meinte Graphic Novelist Jörg Vogeltanz: „Liebe ist nicht Aufopferung, sondern Hingabe.“

Unsere Erfahrungen besagen, da bleiben immer Konflikte zwischen Begehren und Loyalität. Vermutlich hat unser Leben gar keinen anderen Platz, als zwischen diesen beiden Polen. (Eine Station in unserem Projekt trägt den Titel „Nobody Want’s To Be Nobody“.)

Zur bewegenden Seifenoper „Shi mian mai fu“ von Regisseur Zhang Yimou hieß es: „Wenn aus Leidenschaft Haß wird, aus Treue Betrug, und die Wahrheit zum Verrat führt, ist die Liebe die tödlichste Waffe“. Was wahrscheinlich ein grundlegendes Mißverständnis ausdrückt, denn eine Liebe, die zur Waffe wird, ist wohl keine.

Nun haben hier drei Generationen Kulturschaffender zusammengefunden, um diesen Aspekten von Liebe mit verschiedenen Mitteln nachzugehen. Dabei durchmessen wir auch drei kulturelle Räume, aus denen Europa über Jahrhunderte seine Identität bezogen hat. Latinität, Orthodoxie und Islam, inzwischen von profanen Konzepten durchbrochen, sind durch Gäste aus Wien, Beograd und Istanbul symbolisiert.

Unser „next code: love“ läuft von März 2007 bis zum Jahresende und hat seine Hauptveranstaltung im Rahmen des „steirischen herbstes“. (Martin Krusche)

At the beginning of the work for this project stood a sentence, which art historian Mirjana Peitler-Selakov found in the first place in the novel „Anna Karenina“ from Lew Tolstoj: „All lucky families resemble each other, each unfortunate family against it is unfortunate in it’s special kind.“

To another section of the process of „next code: love“ graphic novelist Jörg Vogeltanz meant: „Love is not sacrifice, but devotion.“

Our experiences say, there always remain conflicts between desiring and loyalty. Probably our life has no other place, than between this two positions. (A station in our project is entitled „Nobody Want' s To Be Nobody“.)

To the moving soap opera „Shi mian mai fu“ of director Zhang Yimou they said: „If passion becomes hate, loyalty becomes fraud, and truth leads to the betrayal, love is the deadliest weapon“. Which probably expresses a fundamental misunderstanding, because a love, which becomes a weapon, is probably none.

Now here three generations of artists found together, in order to follow to these aspects of love with different mediums. We also refere to three cultural areas, from which Europe created it’s identity over centuries. Latinity, Orthodoxy and Islam, in the meantime broken through of profane concepts, are symbolized by guests from Vienna, Beograd and Istanbul. Our „next code: love“ runs, starting from March 2007, up to the year end, and has it’s main meeting in the context of the festival „steirischer herbst“. (Martin Krusche)
