buro Stereotypes can be usefull to handle
everyday life. But they are a problem, if they pretend to be criteria for judging people.
I had a very stange situation at "Facebook", where a guy made spooky
statements on "the jugoslavs". He suggested, "jugoslavs"
would prefer to get prostitutes instead of doing conventional work for too little money,
this would be a matter of proudness.
He placed his statement as a leading question, explaining
it in our little debate. I asked him, what he really means and he confirmed his verdict:
That says: "Is easily
explained. Yugoslavs (male & female) do insist on their independence, since they have
freed themselves from the saddle of the Habsburg Empire after the WW1. And it certainly
does not look as dishonorable to sell their bodies if they are not forced to work for two
euros an hour for a capitalist. That has to do with pride, but an Austrian does not
understand that, he has only his pride in his Adolf."
By the way, most of them got rid of the Otoman Empire in
the second "Balkan War" (1913), WW I started 1914. Many Croats and Slovenes
lived under the Habsburg regime, but most of the "southern slavs" (that
means "Jugoslavs") and some other nations lived on Ottoman territory
before 1913.
Guess my surprise, finding a statement of an austrian
woman, consenting to that german specialist on questions of the Balkans:
The Lady from Vienna wrote: "So, quite frankly,
before I would toil for some hated yield by minimal fee, I would also prefer to sell my
body."
It is a strange, no: weird idea thinking, a job in
sex business would be easier and more lucrative than working as cleaner, janitor,
pieceworker, paperboy, whatever I saw people from former Jugoslavia do, even when they
were engineers, doctors and so on. So what the hell is this about?
There is some tradition in Austria and Germany, to identify
a proletarian or "communist" woman as a prostitute. This is
also a fascist's stereotype. Klaus Theweleit explained the origins of fascism in his "Männerphantasien"
("Male Fantasies"). Page 93 in my edition says about that kind of
prejustice:
It means, in their opinion the poletarian woman is
a prostitute. [..] The threat from this women comes from their non-virginity. The
sexual experience, which nationalist soldiers suspect them, they obviously have a
particularly strong fear of. And this fear is associated with the word 'communist'.
There are also many other sources, showing us
some sexually connoted stereopypes about Slavs. I asked Ellerman more then one time, why
he is that interested in a "hooker-story", blaming it on people from
former Jugoslavia.
He denied that special interest, but I found a remarkable
page as part of his blog ("Ganz
tief unten"), headlined "Beautyful Sense": [link]
It shows a model dressed like a hooker or "exotic dancer", ready for "doggy
style". |
|
So this is the kind of
dresscode and pose, Andreas Ellermann seems to prefere. And there is an online-confession
about his prefrences: [link]
That says about: "I am more on the Oriental, or
even the Asian type, and those women are inherently difficult enough, but have the
advantage that they are not yet corrupted by a life of luxury or the consumer
economy."
Well, here we are! Ask Theweleit about the sexual
phantasies of nationalistic soldiers and how fascists were dealing with subjects like
that.
