Diotima spricht über das Vergessen und das Nachsinnen:

"Denn was man Nachsinnen nennt, geschieht, weil Kenntnis entweicht. Vergessen ist nämlich Ausgehen der Kenntnis. Nachsinnen aber bildet eine neue Erinnerung statt der fortgegangenen und erhält die Erkenntnis, sodaß sie dieselbe zu sein scheint. So wird auf diese Weise alles Sterbliche erhalten, nicht dadurch, daß es in jeder Beziehung immer dasselbe bleibt wie das Göttliche, sondern indem das Verschwindende und Alternde ein anderes Neues von der Art, wie es selbst war, zurückläßt."
