art line do not cross

Dear,

I am writing to you with news of a new project I am constructing for which I invite your partecipation, ART LINE DO NOT CROSS. I try here to summarize in as precise a way as possible, if you have any further questions you may contact me.

In the American telefilms a narrow yellowstrip inscribed, POLICE LINE DO NOT CROSS.  in red separates the scene of a crime from everything surrounding it. A boundary is formed, which can be crossed only by those working in that partitioned space. A separation is quantified. The fracture is institutionalized.

The sensation that this type of thing at certain times goes beyond what is intented when an artist’s effort is made in the art world, often with our complicity, is strong.

Strongly present.

The long yellow ribbon with red text, ART LINE DO NOT CROSS that I will send to you, once received, confirms your willingness to participate in this project and becomes a concrete instrument for an intervention and a collective discussion of this implied situation.

Personally I think of ART LINE   as an action, collective and urban, proposed contemporaneously in various cities, Naples, Rome, Milan, New York, London, Melbourne, Helsinki, etc. interested in this project.

Paradoxically can the interruption (of the circuit) meanwhile restore contact in the Beep of such a moment that appears/disappears?

This is my interpretation of how I see the project. Obviously participants are free to interpret the project as they think best, and will be able to intercede in forms and ways they make opportune.
The final doocumentation of the interventions will flow first into catalog form and successively as an exhibition at gallery 404 arte contemporanea in Napoli- for this I refer you to the letter by the curator Francesco Annarumma, artistic director of 404 and curator of this event, which you find at the end of my introduction.

You are kindly asked to:
- confirm by email your acceptance by June 15, 2003
- photographicially document your intervention (your fotos will be published in the  catalog)
- send a maximum of 3 of your photos by August 15, 2003
- format is jpg, 300 d.p.i. if you send by e-mail or on CD-ROM
- format minimum size is 13X 18 cm if printed on paper and sent in postal mail.

Please send a short text, maximum 3-4 lines, on the type of intervention proposed/and/or on the project in general (this also will be published in the catalog).

I await your response. Meanwhile I send

Heartfelt Greetings
